The 5 Fundamentals Of Effective Weight Loss Print E-mail
By John Baril

There are countless dieting programs out there to choose from, both on and offline. Just the Internet alone has a bewildering number of diet plans to choose from. Now if you want to find a diet which is healthy and not harmful to your body, then you are going to have a bigger challenge. Sometimes, finding a diet program that is ideal for you is a bit like finding a needle in a haystack. Regardless of which program you choose, there are some basic rules that must always be adhered to. There are 5 basics to effective weight loss which we will cover in this article.

1. Metabolism is the primary factor which determines the success of weight loss: The rate of your metabolism will be a key factor in how quickly and easily you can lose weight. If, for instance, you have a high metabolism, you will be able to lose a lot of weight in a relatively short timeframe. If, on the other hand, your metabolism is low, then weight loss will be more challenging. If this describes your situation, then you might need to think about boosting your metabolism with an oral supplement of some sort.

2. You must exercise on a regular basis: If you are planning not to exercise, then weight loss will be very difficult for you to achieve, even if you stay on your diet. To lose weight effectively, you need to exercise on a regular basis. Now your exercise does not need to be high intensity but you do need to be consistent. Aerobics and cardio exercises are both very effective at burning fat. Keep in mind that walking is one of the best overall activities that you can do, and it is enjoyable as well.

3. Do not lose your weight too fast: It is difficult to be patient and sometimes the temptation is overwhelming to shed the pounds quickly. Your aim should be to lose around 1 to 2 pounds per week. If you lose weight more quickly than that, then your health and metabolism can be seriously impacted. It never hurts to consult with your family doctor before starting a diet.

4. Minimize your intake of junk food as well as foods that are either high in saturated fats or sugar: even though you have likely heard this advice many times before, it is worth repeating as it is so critical. Now, it is fine to eat some junk food occasionally so that your cravings are satisfied. Just try to minimize how much you do this.

5. If obesity runs in your family, then you will have to work harder at your weight loss. If you have parents who are overweight, then you will be more inclined to gain weight due to the genetic tendency of obesity. Now, this in no way means that you cant lose weight so you shouldnt use this as an excuse for failure. It simply means that you will need to try harder in order to shed the pounds. Good luck with your dieting program.
